About Atago Green

We turn the public record of customer complaints into structured insight for financial services teams.

Atago Green is a UK software company. We work with risk and compliance, MI and complaints leadership teams.

Why we built Atago Green

We exist to help financial services firms reduce avoidable customer harm by making the signals about it visible, structured, and usable.

Most customer harm in financial services is signalled long before it becomes a regulatory case or a media story. The signals are in plain sight — every published Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) decision, every regulatory paper, every consultation response. The problem is volume and structure. Around 30,000 ombudsman decisions are published each year, drawn from over 200,000 cases resolved by the service. Reading them one by one is impossible; reading none of them is dangerous.

Atago Green exists to close that gap. We turn the material into analytics that risk and compliance, MI and complaints leadership teams can use — themes, trends, peer comparisons, rule-level context — delivered on a publishing rhythm teams can plan around.

The founder

Abby Thomas

Atago Green was founded by Abby Thomas, the former Chief Executive and Chief Ombudsman of the UK's Financial Ombudsman Service.

The role spanned the operational and regulatory ends of the same problem. Inside FOS, she led around 3,000 casehandlers resolving complaints across every major UK financial services product line. Externally, the job involved direct engagement with the CEOs and chairs of every major retail bank, lender and insurer in the country.

Two things became clear from that vantage point.

The first is that the signals firms most need are already public. Every FOS decision is on the record. Every rule interpretation, every emerging complaint pattern, every shift in what "fair" means — published. Firms have access to the same information FOS has.

The second is that no firm has the time or structure to make systematic use of it. Even well-resourced risk and compliance teams rely on quarterly meta-reports, manual sampling, and the occasional internal review. The data lives in PDFs. Coverage is partial. Repeat themes go undetected for months.

Atago Green was built to close that gap — not by replacing the judgement of risk and compliance professionals, but by giving them a structured, traceable view of the material they're already paid to act on. The volume defeats research by hand at every size of firm; what we've built is the systematic view that, until now, no team has been able to maintain.

How we work

Three principles shape how we build.

Rules first, AI second.

Our analytics layer is built on deterministic, rule-based methods — taxonomy tagging, structured aggregations, traceable counts. Every number in our briefings and dashboards is reproducible. Generative AI sits on top, used selectively where it adds value: natural-language search, briefing drafting, surfacing patterns a human can then verify. The structural integrity of the numbers does not depend on probabilistic models.

Statistical discipline.

Small samples produce misleading uphold rates. To avoid that, the Insight Hub suppresses incomplete months from monthly analytics, holding back the latest month until it's complete. The briefings follow the same rule.

Audit-friendly outputs.

Every briefing carries a methodology note. Every analytic links back to the underlying published material. For source text, we link to the FOS's own database so the trail stays at source.

The team

A small UK team.

Atago Green is a small team based in the UK, with core disciplines including software development and data science.

Developed with industry

Tested against real workflows.

FOS Watch was developed with three UK Tier 1 lenders and insurers during a six-month design period. Their input shaped the data structure, the peer-comparison framing, and — perhaps most usefully — the working assumptions about what genuinely moves the needle inside risk and compliance, MI and complaints leadership teams. The product is a better one because it was tested against real workflows from the start.

Accreditations and assurance

Data discipline expected of Tier 1 suppliers.

Atago Green operates with the data discipline expected of suppliers to UK Tier 1 financial services firms.

Hosting and processing are UK-based; all data and infrastructure remain within UK boundaries. Atago Green is registered on the Financial Services Qualification System (FSQS) and is Cyber Essentials accredited, with Cyber Essentials Plus to follow and ISO 27001 planned within twelve months. Every analytic and briefing in our products carries a methodology note and links back to the underlying published material.

We hold a current Data Processing Agreement template and complete supplier security questionnaires on request.

See it for yourself.

The fastest way to see what FOS Watch does is to try it. The first four weeks of email briefings come at no charge and no commitment — full insight, no card.
